New User F.A.Q.
Can I still use my service in another city?
Internet8 has coverage in many areas. Click
here to locate the number you need.
What is a simultaneous log on?
Internet8 accounts are designed for one log on at a time. Users
are welcome to log on at work and then at home, but not be on simultaneously
(at the same time). If you are certain you are the only user on
your account that should be accessing the account, please request
a password change at Customer Services.
What type of modem do I need to set up with Internet8?
Internet8 requires a modem with a baud rate of 14.4 or greater.
For faster surfing, we suggest 33.6 or 56k. In most areas Internet8
offers access lines for v.90 and K56Flex from Rockwell.
What's the advantage of having a separate phone line?
With a separate phone line, you can surf and take incoming calls
at the same time. Without it, callers receive a busy signal any
time you are online. If you have call waiting, it is possible that
you will get disconnected from the Internet anytime someone calls
while you are online. To temporarily disable call waiting, add *70,
(star, seven, zero, comma) to the beginning of the number you are
dialing in your dialer.
Do I need software if I have Windows 95 or Windows 98 or XP?
Not necessarily. We offer programs that will configure your computer
for you free of charge. You can do it manually if you so choose.
How can I change my password or username?
Visit our Password Change Request
page. Select the option of your choice and follow the instructions,
complete the form and send it to Internet8 by clicking the "submit"
button.
Can I create my own web page?
You can create your own web page, but there are some guidelines
that you must follow. Visit our Members
Site for details.
Can I use Netscape Navigator with Internet8?
Yes, you can use any Internet product with our service. We recommend
using the latest versions of any browser software for best results.
If I have a new phone line installed for use with my computer,
do I have to notify Internet8?
No, it doesn't matter to us which number you dial from. You don't
even have to adjust any of your computer settings. Just plug the
new line into your modem and away you go!
What is spam mail?
Spam is just another word for junk mail. A lot of sites on the Internet
require your email address before their page will load, most of
the time this happens without you even knowing. It is not necessarily
a bad thing. There is no harm they can do with your email address
other then send large amounts of email advertisements. Still, it
can be very annoying, and Internet8 does all it can to prevent spam
mail from being sent by its own customers.
I am a new computer user. Can you suggest any good books for
learning about the Internet?
There are many different books about the Internet for new users,
as well as advanced users. The Internet for Dummies is a
very informative book for novices to experts. It adds a little humor
to break up the monotony of learning new phrases and new concepts.
It is available at any book store and is not very expensive. Just
look for the bright yellow and black book.
